The WSOP is not only one of the biggest champion poker players tournaments in the world, it is also one of the biggest prize money tournaments ever; as well as THE biggest prestige awards in this game. Every year when the World Series of Poker tournament starts, thousands of poker players flock to the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. They might not all be staying in the hotel but they will be staying in Vegas and usually for a good few weeks of action. This takes place around June annually and the poker champion of champions event in November – dubbed the “November Nine’, is obviously the ultimate WSOP event to win.

Every main table in every event – sees the overall winner taking away prize money as well as the best poker champion award of them all. The WSOP gold bracelet! This is the absolute accolade of our times and some players have won their fair share. One of the best known poker champions of our times has got to be Phil Hellmuth, often referred to as the poker “Brat”, but more often hailed as the ‘Poker King’.

Phil Plays in the BIG league games he is not interested in the $1500 buy-in events, and during the recent 2011 World Series of Poker tournament, Event Number 16 – a $10,000 buy-in, for the 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit) Championship. It looked like the Poker Brat would turn out to be the King once again.

Players already out of the field on the rail and journalist waited with baited breath to see if the poker champion would land his 12th (yes…twelfth) WSOP Gold Bracelet. Imagine the tension in the Amazon Room, as Hellmuth took out Richard Ashby in 3rd place? At this point in time, Hellmuth and John Juanda were the only players left at the table. The poker brat also had a $ chip lead of $2.9 million to $800,000 over Juanda!!

Everyone thought it was safe to assume that the brat would be king once again – even the brat. But never underestimate the fighting spirit of another poker champion. John Juanda had four WSOP Gold bracelets at the time and badly wanted another trophy for his wall, or wherever these winners put their bracelets. Any additional bracelets Hellmuth ever wins will make poker history, pretty much the same goes for Juanda, but four as apposed to eleven? Well… the scales are not too evenly balanced? But John Juanda came out like the poker champion he is, cruising into the lead, turning both Hellmuth and the game upside down and winning this event in the end.

This poker game is a history-maker; it will go down as one of the biggest highlights of the 2011 WSOP tournament season. On congratulating John Juanda on winning - Phil Hellmuth Tweeted that he was ‘inconsolable’ about losing, even though he made $240000 and came second! Juanda’s victory after a three-hour battle saw the king turned into a brat once again, when he was white-washed with the biggest poker paintbrush of all time.
